Henry D. Green Jr.

Mr. Green graduated in 1973 with Honors from the University of Tennessee, where he was also an All-America and three-time letterman on the Varsity Swim Team. At the University of Georgia Law School, he was president of the class of 1978. Following his graduation, he joined the Athens’ law firm of Erwin, Epting, Gibson & McCleod where he began his career as a litigator specializing in medical malpractice defense. Before starting his partnership with Mr. Sapp in 2005, Mr. Green was a member of several large and medium sized medical litigation defense firms, where he represented physicians and hospitals for various insurance carriers, including the St. Paul, Fire & Marine Insurance Company, the Medical Protective Company, and MAG Mutual Insurance Company. At present, he is counsel for the WellStar Health System and also represents the Emory Children’s Center and Kaiser Permanente.
An AV rated trial attorney, Mr. Green has over thirty-one years of experience in litigating medical defense lawsuits. He also has experience in products’ liability defense work, personal injury, and personal representation of physicians and healthcare providers before state licensing agencies. He has tried over seventy medical malpractice cases and has served as lead counsel in hundreds more which were resolved by summary judgment, mediation or settlement. He has also served as lead Appellate counsel before the Georgia Court of Appeals, the Georgia Supreme Court, and the Fifth and Eleventh Circuit Federal Courts of Appeal. In his capacity of hospital counsel, he has also participated in advising physicians, hospital staff, and risk management personnel on many different issues, including changes in the law relating to tort reform, the Privacy Rule of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), and other areas of law.

David A. Sapp

Upon graduation from the University of Georgia Lumpkin School of Law in 1983, Mr. Sapp served as law clerk for a Superior Court Judge and for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. He was a partner in a large Atlanta civil litigation firm for years before starting his own firm in 1997. He and Mr. Green have been law partners for over four years.
Mr. Sapp is an AV rated trial attorney with 25 years experience primarily in defense of civil cases. He has handled cases involving professional negligence, including representation of physicians and health care facilities in defense of medical malpractice claims, product liability defense, personal injury, property damage, insurance coverage litigation.
Mr. Sapp has served as lead counsel in over 50 physician, hospital and/or home health care medical malpractice cases through summary judgment, mediation resolution and/or trial. He represents corporations and individuals involved in employment related disputes, including breach of non-solicitation/non-compete agreements. He has served as lead counsel in the defense of over 25 toxic tort actions involving claims for personal injury, cancer, fear of disease, asbestosis, medical monitoring/screening and property damage. He has also advised various clients including insurance carriers and individuals in determining rights and obligations under CGL insurance policies for property damage.

Mary Paige Adams

Since beginning her practice, Mary Paige Adams has specialized in medical malpractice and healthcare cases. She has taken multiple medical malpractices cases to verdict, successful mediation, summary judgment and successful appellate resolution. Mrs. Adams along with Mr. Sapp, represented a corporate defendant in a multi-million dollar product liability case which they successfully resolved through mediation. Recently, Mrs. Adams, along with her partner Mr. Green, received a favorable opinion from the Georgia Supreme Court regarding ex parte interviews of treating physicians.
On a daily basis in addition to the on-going lawsuits, Mrs. Adams advises her health care clients with regard to risk management issues. One of her specialties is representing non-party healthcare providers in trials, hearings and depositions when their testimony has been requested. She also serves as lead counsel representing a large healthcare corporation at involuntary commitment hearings for mentally ill patients. Mrs. Adams graduated from the University of Georgia with both a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, Broadcast News (1998) and a Juris Doctorate (2002). Prior to joining Green & Sapp, LLP, Mrs. Adams was an associate with a mid-sized Atlanta medical malpractice defense firm. Mrs. Adams is also very involved in the Atlanta community serving on the Board of Directors for Peachtree Childtown and a former Board member for the Kiwanis Club of Atlanta. Mrs. Adams was a member of the Leadership Georgia class of 2010 and received the distinction of being selected as Program Chair for the 2011 Leadership Georgia St. Simons program. She is also a member of the Junior League of Atlanta, Brookwood Hills Friends of Childrenā??s Healthcare of Atlanta, Peachtree Christian Church, Kiwanis Club of Atlanta and the University of Georgia National Alumni Association. Mrs. Adams was recently bestowed the honor of being selected by the University of Georgia National Alumni Association to the inaugural class of 40 under 40 University of Georgia Alumni. In addition, Mrs. Adams was appointed by Georgia Governor Nathan Deal to serve the State on the Judicial Nominating Commission.

D. Austin Gillis

Austin Gillis graduated from the University of Georgia School of Law in 2004 and began working as the staff attorney for the Honorable J. Stephen Schuster of the Superior Court of Cobb County. In his three years working for the court, Mr. Gillis assisted in writing numerous court orders in a wide range of cases, including: complex business disputes; death penalty criminal cases; declaratory judgment actions challenging the constitutionality of local ordinances; employment disputes; and medical malpractice cases.
Mr. Gillis joined the firm of Green & Sapp as an associate in July 2007. Since joining Green & Sapp, Mr. Gillis has participated in over thirty cases. He has obtained favorable verdicts in Magistrate Court bench trials, successfully prosecuted collateral attacks on default judgments, and helped negotiate cases to settlement. Mr. Gillis has also challenged the qualifications of several expert witnesses under Georgia’s recent Daubert statute, and he recently obtained summary judgment in a medical malpractice case on the grounds that an expert witness was unqualified.
Mr. Gillis presently represents corporations and individuals in employment disputes, and general contractors in construction-related tort cases. He also represents physicians and other healthcare providers in medical malpractice cases, as well as in other healthcare-related matters (including involuntary commitment hearings and deprivation petitions). In his spare time, he serves as an attorney coach for the Marietta High School Mock Trial team, and serves as editor for the Cobb Bar News, the award-winning newsletter for the Cobb County Bar Association.
